The Monday Pep Talk | Slow down, mummy

This is not a pep talk to get you any further in business. This is a gentle reminder that I think most of us need from time to time. Especially when you have children you realise how fast the years go by. A beautiful and insightful poem by Rebekah Knight;

Slow down mummy, there is no need to rush,
slow down mummy, what is all the fuss?
Slow down mummy, make yourself a cup tea.
Slow down mummy, come and spend some time with me.

Slow down mummy, let's put our boots on and go out for a wal
let's kick at piles of leaves, and smile and laugh and talk.
Slow down mummy, you look ever so tired,
come sit and snuggle under the duvet and rest with me a while.

Slow down mummy, those dirty dishes can wait,
slow down mummy, let's have some fun, let's bake a cake!
Slow down mummy I know you work a lot,
but sometimes mummy, its nice when you just stop.

Sit with us a minute,
& listen to our day,
spend a cherished moment,
because our childhood is not here to stay! x

  1. I sort of get it, but at the same time, I also understand the need to do all those things first, because whilst somebody is busy writing a poem (i.e. a kid) nobody else is going to help our finishing all those chores. :) So if it was me, I wouldn't be able to slow down and relax thinking of all the things I'd have to do afterward because that's mummy's job. ;) I know I probably sound like a bore, but just being real… :)

    1. I think it is about finding time to play not just do chores and it is possible I know, I do it lots!

  2. Believe me, as I hugged my 19 year and sent her on her way driving herself back to college I realized in that moment that I wouldn't get that moment back. THat time has gone by so fast.. I felt dizzy for a second like the world was spinning too fast I needed it to slow down. I have spent 19 years running around trying to be super Mom that I should have left a few dishes in the sink and played on the trampoline with them.. Bittersweet. Well, no turning back now.. but I have learned alot along the way. Thank you for this heartfelt post!

i say it to myself often in less perfect words, and hearing this makes me tear and laugh and be happy that I can spen my days with my baby boy! BIG HUG Z
