The Monday Peptalk!

OUTER BEAUTY
Sir Richard Branson needs no further introduction, being a super entrepreneur creating the Virgin Group with its many companies. I have read some of his books (good and entertaining) and follow his blog. Recently he was in Egypt, where he talked to eniGma Magazine about life as the head of Virgin. One of the key points which Branson was keen to stress, was the importance of a brand name:

“Your brand or your name is simply your reputation, you have to fight in life to protect that as it means everything. Nothing is more important.”

Throughout the talk he told how he first came across the idea of starting his very own airline.

“I’ve never thought of myself as a businessman, I’ve just come across situations in life where I’ve thought “dammit, we can do so much better than this!” There was one evening where I was flying from Puerto Rico to the Virgin Islands, where the love of my life was waiting for me. The American airline decided to bump us all and cancel the flight as there weren’t enough people on the flight, but I was determined to get there that night. I went to the back of the airport, hired a plane and borrowed a blackboard. I wrote on the blackboard “Single to the Virgin Islands: $29 – Virgin,” I walked around the airport and filled the plane with everyone waiting and managed to fill up my first plane.”

Well, as you all know the rest is (a very successful) history. But it´s always inspiring to know how successful people came up with ideas and how it was in the beginning. Since we have all been there, are there or getting there!

Have a glorious Monday!

  2. Sann inspirationskälla. Jag såg honom i ett härligt program tillsammans med Pavarotti. De var så mysiga tillsammans, så jag blev lite kär i båda två.

  3. Richard Branson is such an inspiration. I love the way he takes a keen interest in every single one of his staff. He's one clever man with a whole lot of humility to boot.
