A townhouse with a bathroom...

OUTER BEAUTY
I have been a fan of interior decorator Nate Berkus for many years, especially since he also seems like a really nice person. His decoration style is just elegant but personal and homey. This New York townhouse belonged to (it is now sold) celebrity chef Katie Lee Joel. I especially love the bathroom with all its details. It is so beautiful and light. I think I would home spa a lot there. A lot.

Have a beautiful day!

Dinner at the beach

OUTER BEAUTY
The other night we were invited to a fabulous dinner party at the beach. It was an amazing setting with the sun going down, children playing and we enjoying delicious food. The summer is short, but oh so beautiful!

Currently obsessing about...a pool in the garden

OUTER BEAUTY
We are sooo grateful for the heat wave we are currently experiencing. So grateful that I am seriously considering building a pool in the garden...maybe a bit over optimistic but still, it would be great. In the meantime I am dreaming about these houses...

A refreshing start

OUTER BEAUTY
We are, finally after a poor start, enjoying lovely summer days. The weather has been amazing the last week so we are doing all summer activities there possibly are. Today we started out with a (actually rather cold:) morning dip from the pier in the harbour. There really isn´t any better start to a new day. And then home to a big pot of coffee. I hope you are enjoying your summer days as well and see you soon again!

Could it be any more Scandinavian?

OUTER BEAUTY
Danish  interior designer Tine K. is renowned for her typical Scandinavian style in her home as well as in her own interior decoration line. A couple of years ago I went several times to the Tine K. flagship store in fabulous Hellerup, just ten minutes outside Copenhagen city. It was a unique shop of its own, with her own finest Scandinavian designs mixed with gorgeous clothes from e.g Philip Lim, Baum und Pferdgarten and many other stylish designers. Then Tine K. suddenly shut down the shop, and now the great pieces can be found through her webshop and many resellers around the world instead. But her home really gives a glimpse of what to expect. Thanks to Blackballon who got a private photo shoot, and gave permission to show you these unique photos from Tine K's private home. It really doesn´t get more Scandinavian or actually Danish than this!

BON Weekend!

OUTER BEAUTY
What are you up to this weekend? We went to a fantastic 40th birthday party last night, filled with great friends, laugh out loud but touching speaches and great food. Otherwise we are totally in summer mood, longing for the beach, and go as much as possible. In the evenings we barbeque with friends, have some chilled rosé wine and stay up late. In the morning, when our one year old wakes up, too early, we always say we cannot stay up so late...but it´s the summer and it´s oh so short, so you have to live a little:)

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Island getaway

OUTER BEAUTY
Welcome home to fashion designer Donna Karans beach house in the British West Indies.
- For the kids, it has become a miniresort. For me, it’s a sanctuary where I go to create awareness. Three hours from New York, I have this amazing cocoon of serenity that reminds me of the two places on the planet where I feel happiest: Africa and Bali says Donna Karan to Architecthural Digest. During the project building the house Donna Karans husband passed away, so the place to took Karan a while to fulfill. In 2006, when construction was well under way, she also started the Urban Zen Foundation, in her late husbands memory, to promote the integration of Eastern healing practices with Western medicin, which along with yoga is a huge interest for Karan. It must be heaven spendig time at this peaceful island getaway I would say.

Mapping the mind

INNER BEAUTY
I was so inspired this morning to find out that the new article series in Swedens second largest (and in my opinion best) newspaper SvD, will cover the connection between the outer and inner world coming weeks. First out to be interviewed is the quantum physicist Arthur Zajonc, who recently was appointed new Director for Mind & Life Institute. His vision for the future is "mapping the mind".

-We need to view the inner world as real as the outer world. They should both be given the same status. Then we can find ways to understand who we really are, says Arthur Zajonc.

Arthur Zajonc is a Professor Emeritus at Amherst College in USA and he meditates reguarly. He predicts that thousands of professors uses meditation. Some of them belongs to Harvard Business School and have started a network called "contemplation and leadership”. They arranged a mini retreat at Harvard a couple of months ago when they meditated together for three hours. Afterwards one of the professors said: Who would have thought we would do this together five years ago?

-It all changes very fast now. Life isn´t dualistic. Everything is an integrated system. People are longing after a life that is connected. A life that is whole, says Arthur Zajonc.

- We shall become everything we can in the outer world (by objective research) and everything we can in the inner world (by examining ourselves). To see both these experiences as real is what makes us fully human, finishes Arthur Zajonc.

Interesting and inspiring thoughts, I hope you think as well. We will continue to follow this series, since it´s all about inner & outer beauty. And you and I know we need (and can have) both.

Now, I am off to the beach for some outer beauty!

Summertime - and the living is easy...

OUTER BEAUTY
How are you? I am so sorry for the poor blogging the last days! My sister, her husband and three kids are staying with us for the moment, so it´s been pretty hectic...mostly we just hang out with our children at the beach, when the weather is good enough, and in the evening we prepare sort of gigantic meal times with good wines and just staying up too late and talk. Summer holiday in a nutshell for many people I guess. The update on the blog may be a bit slower during holiday times, but I am already planning for the fall at the blog so stay tuned! I hope you have a wonderful summertime wherever you are and see you on Monday again!

To know where to go

INNER BEAUTY
Inspiring words from fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg upon the everlasting subject creating yourself and creating the life that we want. She has had a life full of ups and downs (but with a big dose of glamour!). I think it's a great idea to sometimes take a break and define for oneself what kind of person we want to be, or become, where we want to go, and then stick to that, which Diane did successfully. That´s what I'm thinking of today...

Have a fabulous day!
